Some of these are off color and I love them all the more for it. danmeth: New Cartoon! : FORGOTTEN NINTENDO CARTOONS OF THE 80’S There were some NES games that didn’t exactly leave their mark on history. And coincidently enough, they all are based on the events and pop culture of that era. You might have to take the cartridge out and blow in it to get this cartoon to work Hahaha.

On Santa Claus. And I Don't Mean Like *That*
Crossposted from here: A couple of years ago, a chronologically challenged relative of mine asked me about Santa Claus. For people brought up in our christian-centered culture this question always seems to be about loss, the first step to the loss of innocence. With her parent’s permission I told her the truth. First I told her that there was a man. Saint Nicholas, Bishop of Myra, born in...

Project 365: Day Seven
I once read that a person can track the movement of the stars if the camera exposure is long enough. I took the above using my trusty zoom lens and a 30 second exposure. It took me longer than I expected to get this shot, mostly because my street is busier than I realized. No, it’s not anything like my downtown apartment in San Francisco, but there were enough cars messing things up...

At the Top of My Christmas Wish List →
I finally found one of these in a local store, but Photojojo has it for less. I also hear that the latter sends little dinosaurs with their orders.

Project 365: Day Four
This is part of the only picture I took today. I cropped it because I didn’t like this particular photo of myself but, again, it’s the only one I had for this day. This is a section of my hair. Actually, my hair looks great in this picture. I styled it as per the instructions of “Your Best Blowout Ever” found in the November issue of InStyle magazine. It’s just...

The Hand Talks to YOU →
This amused me because I’ve seen a similar gesture on my own child: the accusatory finger that seems to be saying, “I’m warning you…” To which I laugh and think, “Warning me about what? You’re much smaller than I am. What are you going to do?”

There is a reason why I don’t take a lot of pictures of the foods I make. There was coffee cake on this plate.

Photojojo!: What does your camera say about you? →
I started out with a Canon and am now using a Nikon. Where do I go from here?! photojojo: With no intention to start any photog brawls, here’s a funny article by photographer/comedian Gordon Lewis about what your camera may or may not say about you (originally spotted this on Gizmodo): Just as the clothes you choose to wear, the food you like to eat, and the people you…

30 Days of Me(me): Day Nine
9. a photo of your family Mom, Dad and siblings. I think this was 1991. My brother V says that it was a different year but how would he remember? He’s 10 years older than I am. (I love you, bro. Please don’t sic your dogs on me. Again.)

8. a photo of your favorite band/musician Neil Finn! You might remember him from such fine songs as Don’t Dream It’s Over and one of my favorites, “Fall At Your Feet”:

7. a photo of someone you love You could pretend that I’m really deep and think, “Wow! The focus seems to be the cat but the people she loves are really in the pictures in the background, which are blurred, like a long distant memory!” That would be a nice thought. It would make me feel smart for a second. But, no: the cat is the subject of the photo. This is Clarice. I...

4. a photo of the last place you went on holiday Let’s face it: long after the smell of the Pacific Ocean has left my hair, I’m still craving Mexican food from the little taquerias in San Diego. Clockwise (from right): carne asada burrito (my sister’s), potato rolled tacos and beef rolled tacos. The rolled tacos are topped with cheese, guacamole, sour cream and a bit of...

3. a photo that makes you happy I relocated to San Francisco on June 9, 2010, which is also my friend Jeremiah’s birthday. (I know: best present ever, right?) It was also almost four months after my mom had died - or, as I calculated it back then, “One third of a year. How could it be possible that the world has continued on without her?” I credit this move for helping me to...

30 Days of Me(me)
1. your facebook profile photo There’s a second meme going around wherein I would use this day to introduce myself. Some of the days’ topics feel kind of personal - not in a way that involves me walking down the beach in a white dress (although I think that would be preferable to honestly addressing some of the subjects). In any event, my name is April. I’m a Californian who...
